Missions Trip:
The Missions Trip is a service trip supported by Simply Smiles, an organization that partners with populations in need to create physical and emotional environments where suffering is alleviated and from which local leaders can emerge. Volunteers will be working with the indigenous people of the Lakota Sioux Tribe to instill hope and remove obstacles to empower others for a brighter future. The week long immersive experience begins on July 11, 2020. Volunteers live in the community of La Plant on the Cheyenne River Reservation. Our focus is to provide day camping experiences for the youth of the community, work on building projects, vegetable gardening, and preparing meals for the community members. You might have the chance to listen to the Lakota drumming ceremony, witness a powwow with traditional dancing, meet artisans who craft jewelry and dream-catchers, and hear stories that have been passed down for generations. |
